North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun (CCH) Training Course – Essentials Package

Our State-approved North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun (CCH) Training Course (commonly known as the NC Concealed Carry class) meets the requirements of G.S. 14-415.12 for obtaining a North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit.

This course follows the official North Carolina Justice Academy Concealed Carry Handgun Training Manual ("Red Book") curriculum and provides instruction in firearm safety, legal responsibilities, and basic handgun skills. The class is designed for both beginners and experienced shooters who want to carry a concealed handgun safely, responsibly, and legally.

Duration: 8 hours of instruction plus live-fire qualification 

Curriculum Topics
The course follows the required NC Justice Academy curriculum and includes:

Legal Responsibilities

• NC concealed carry laws
• Use of deadly force and legal justification
• Prohibited carry locations
• Firearm storage requirements, including G.S. 14-315.1
• Responsibilities of concealed handgun permit holders
• Written legal examination

Firearm Knowledge & Safety

• Handgun parts and operation
• Revolver and semiautomatic handgun fundamentals
• Safe handling, storage, and carry practices
• Considerations for homes with minors

Handgun Skills

• Loading and unloading
• Grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control
• Dry-fire practice
• Drawing and presentation techniques
• Cleaning, maintenance, and function checks
• Ammunition components and selection

Live-Fire Qualification
Students complete the required range qualification by demonstrating safe firearm handling and basic marksmanship skills while shooting a silhouette target at:

• 3 yards
• 5 yards
• 7 yards

Firearm & Ammunition (Essentials Package)
Students must bring their own modern handgun in safe, reliable working condition and 50 rounds of factory-packaged ammunition appropriate for their firearm.

Reloaded or loose ammunition is not permitted.

Student Requirements
Students must:

• Be at least 21 years old
• Provide a valid government-issued photo ID
• Understand and speak English (all instruction, safety commands, and testing are conducted in English)
• Provide their own eye and ear protection (loaners available if needed)
• Bring their own handgun and 50 rounds of factory ammunition

No prior firearm experience is required.

DO NOT BRING ANY LIVE AMMUNITION INTO THE CLASSROOM.
All ammunition must remain secured until directed to retrieve it for the live-fire portion of the course.

What You Receive
Upon successful completion, students receive:

• NC Concealed Carry Handgun Training Certificate of Completion
• Official NC Justice Academy "Red Book" student manual
• Knowledge and skills necessary to carry a concealed handgun safely and legally

Important Note
This course is a fundamentals and legal compliance course designed to satisfy the training requirement for a new North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit application.

This is not an advanced tactical, defensive shooting, or combat training course.
