This state-approved Concealed Carry Handgun Training course (commonly known as the NC CCH or Concealed Carry class) meets all the necessary requirements under North Carolina law (G.S. 14-415.12) for obtaining a Concealed Handgun Permit. Based on the official curriculum from the North Carolina Justice Academy’s Concealed Carry Handgun Training manual (the “Red Book”), the course provides comprehensive instruction in legal responsibilities, firearm safety, and basic handgun handling skills. It is designed for both beginners and experienced shooters who wish to carry a concealed handgun responsibly.

The course follows the required topical areas:
- 8 hours of instruction (as mandated by state rule 12 NCAC 09F .0102). This typically includes classroom time plus range exercises and can be completed in one full day or split across sessions.

- Legal Issues (Minimum 2 hours): Justification for use of deadly force, prohibited carry locations, handgun storage requirements (including G.S. 14-315.1 for minors), and NC laws on concealed carry. A written examination assesses understanding.
- Handgun Nomenclature: Primary parts of revolvers and semiautomatic handguns.
- Handgun Safety: Safe gun handling rules (demonstrated on the range), storage methods, safe carry practices, and considerations for homes with minors.
- Handgun Fundamentals: Loading, unloading, and operational characteristics of revolvers and semiautomatics.
- Marksmanship Fundamentals: Proper grip, Weaver or Isosceles stance, sight alignment/picture, and trigger control (including dry-fire practice).
- Presentation Techniques: Drawing and presenting the handgun from various holsters.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Field stripping, function checks, and lubrication points.
- Ammunition: The four basic components and related information.
Class Format
This is a fundamentals and legal compliance course, not advanced tactical or defensive training. Successful completion satisfies the training requirement for a new NC CCH permit application. - Certificate of Completion (required to apply for your NC Concealed Handgun Permit at your local sheriff’s office).
- A copy of the official Red Book (student manual) for ongoing reference.
- Knowledge and skills to carry responsibly and legally.
A .22 pistol along with ammo is provided as part of the class. You may ring your own handgun and ammunition if you prefer.
